The first round of regional rankings for NCAA Division 2 men's basketball were released Wednesday afternoon with Northwest Missouri State among the likely candidates to reach the NCAA Tournament.

The first round of rankings didn't actually rank teams, instead they listed schools under consideration based on their resumes.

Northwest was joined as a team under consideration from the MIAA along with Washburn and Missouri Southern.

Teams listed from the Northern Sun included the region's host school, Northern State. Augustana, Minnesota State Moorhead, Upper Iowa and Wayne State round out the first set of regional rankings.

This year's Central Region will only feature six teams, down from eight in previous seasons as a temporary change surrounding the pandemic.

Central Region Teams Under Consideration (Alphabetical Order)
Augustana (S.D.) - 8-5
Minnesota State Moorhead - 8-2
Missouri Southern - 11-8
Northern State - 14-0
Northwest Missouri State - 17-1
Upper Iowa - 9-5
Washburn - 14-3
Wayne State (Neb.) - 9-5
